************************************************************************ These programs and com files will allow you to read a distribution tape from Stanford and insert them in the pixel directory. file1.;1 and file3.;1 are the files from the TeX1.1 tapes obtain on August 27, 1984 from Maria Code. Flip.exe will flip the order of the bytes in a pixel directory so that the order within 32 bit words is DEC or non-DEC format. dviqms can read pixel files in either order without help from the user. In DEC format dviqms is slightly faster, but if you have a versetec or other driver that requires the fonts in non-DEC order you may need it. Check the files via a dump command for the first word (currently 101). Pack.exe will convert 8-byte records of pixel files into 512 bytes. It uses fixformat.com, or rather fixform.com uses pack to accomplish this. The pixel tape can be read by using read.com. read.com reads the 8192byte records as 8-byte records. This seems to be the easy out since the Stanford tape has some short records at the end of each pixel. You can use file1.;1 from the pixel tape and edt to accomplish this task. Of course these steps will not be needed if you are a normal user.
